A friendly mixed walking group for men and women who like a gentle ramble. Walks tend to be at a gentle easy going pace on flat terrain. Please note that a men’s walk takes place on the second Sunday in the month. Every first and third Sunday in the month from 10 am until 12 noon with a Men’s walking group on the second Sunday in the month. Founded in 1971, a friendly mixed group of mostly retirees who walk in the local countryside, meeting every Tuesday and Thursdays to walk from varied locations around the borough. Each walk is split into a longer walk of about 2 hours and a shorter one of about an hour to suit all abilities, gathering afterwards for refreshments. A friendly women’s walking group for anyone who enjoys a gentle stroll and a good chat. Walks are circular with time for refreshments at the end. A fabulous way to get some fresh air, meet new people and enjoy a relaxed walk together. Every second Tuesday of the month starting from 10.30 am. The Monday Strollers walking group meets every Monday, normally starting from Victoria Park Leisure Centre, Ilkeston at 10:15am. These are short walks to improve your health in pleasant company. Walks are usually flat, avoid stiles, circular or linear, and take about an hour. Everyone walks at their own pace, as trained leaders walk at the pace of the fastest and slowest walkers. Sturdy footwear and appropriate waterproofs are advised. The walks, up to 3½ miles long, are led by trained volunteers and provide gentle exercise to improve health in a friendly atmosphere. Walks last between 60-90 mins and are suitable for people looking to increase their activity levels, returning from injury or illness. A £1 contribution is requested to subsidise the on-going smooth running of our group. Sorry no dogs allowed.

Regain cycling confidence, gently improve fitness a enjoy a free, sociable 10 mile ride. All abilities welcome. All rides start and end at the Straw’s Bridge Local Nature Reserve in West Hallam, Ilkeston, DE7 5FG. Everybody can join in for some gentle exercise every Monday from approximately 6.45pm to 8.30pm. Each ride is led by volunteers and supported by Erewash Borough Council’s Community Health and Wellbeing Development Team. The bike rides are free - you need only take your bike, a cycling helmet and a bottle of water. There is some parking at Straw’s Bridge if you wish to drive to the beginning of the route.
